“GANTS HILL – A HISTORY IN PHOTOGRAPHS”
by Vincent Goodman and Jef Page – Published by The History Press
Published May 2023
This is the first photographic history book focussing on Gants Hill, illustrating in detail how the farmland of the early 1900s seemed to transform in a few years into a major commuter suburb. The book contains over 180 carefully selected photographs, and a history of the area.
About Gants Hill
Gants Hill is a residential area situated in South West Essex with a population of 12,000. It is 2 miles north of Ilford and 12 miles east of Central London. Gants Hill is 30 minutes from Oxford Circus on London Underground’s Central Line.
The beautiful Valentines Park stretches from Gants Hill to Ilford. With it’s lakes, county cricket ground, tennis courts, mini golf course and other attractions, the park is a wonderful place to escape from the noise and hubbub of Ilford town centre. Gants Hill has a good choice of hotels, guest houses and B&B’s, including the new Travelodge and Express Inn.
